Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, is a treatment method that helps individuals address mental health issues, emotional challenges, and behavioral problems. It involves talking with a trained therapist to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and to learn strategies for improving well-being.
People seek therapy for a variety of reasons, including managing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, trauma, or personal growth. If you are feeling overwhelmed, struggling to cope with daily life, or just want to explore your thoughts and emotions in a supportive environment, therapy could be beneficial.
During your first session, your therapist will ask about your background, current concerns, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and determine if the therapist is a good fit for you. The session is typically more about getting to know you and setting goals.
The duration of therapy varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some people may benefit from a few sessions, while others may require ongoing therapy over several months or years. Your therapist will work with you to create a plan that suits your situation.
Yes, therapy sessions are confidential. Your therapist is bound by ethical and legal guidelines to protect your privacy. There are rare exceptions, such as when there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or when required by law.
Choosing the right therapist is important for a successful therapy experience. Consider factors such as the therapist’s qualifications, experience, and approach to therapy. It’s also important that you feel comfortable with your therapist, as a strong therapeutic relationship is key to effective treatment.
At this time our practice is completely virtual. Sessions are available exclusively to individuals located in New York and Minnesota. Our online sessions provide the same level of care and confidentiality as in-person sessions, allowing you to access therapy from the comfort of your own home. Whether you’re dealing with a busy schedule, prefer the convenience of online sessions, or reside in a different part of these states, we’re here to support you.
Our session rate is $200, and we accept various payment methods to ensure that accessing therapy is as straightforward as possible.
Our practice does not accept insurance directly; however, we understand that cost is an important factor in accessing care. We provide a superbill after each session, which you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Please note that reimbursement is dependent on your insurance plan and coverage. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to understand your out-of-network benefits.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a cancellation fee. We understand that unexpected situations arise, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
It can be helpful to think about your goals for therapy and any specific issues you want to address. Being open and honest with your therapist will allow you to get the most out of your sessions. You don’t need to prepare extensively—just come with a willingness to engage in the process.
If you feel that therapy isn’t working, it’s important to discuss your concerns with your therapist. Together, you can explore what might not be working and make adjustments to your treatment plan. Sometimes, it may take a few sessions to feel the benefits, or you may need to try a different therapeutic approach.
